Our Story

Welcome to Ancarraig

Celebrating more than 50 years of hospitality and guardianship of this special place and those who visit.

Est. 1973

How This Place Came to Be

Ancarraig sits on 12 acres of birch and pine woodland above Loch Ness. The site was created and lodges built in 1973, the vision of a lovely Dutch man named Tony who would drive his guests on local safaris in his Land Rover.

Back then, there were no trees on the site at all! Ancarraig has since become an institution of rustic, charming, cosy Highland hospitality and continues to welcome guests from all over the world.

We even accidentally kept the Land Rover link connection alive through sister company WildTrax, who offer self-drive Land Rover hire to explore the rugged Highlands in!

Our Values

What Matters to Us

These are the things we care about the most - how we run the place, how we treat guests, how we look after the land.

Sustainability

The natural beauty here is what makes Ancarraig worth visiting. We use renewable energy and sustainably practices wherever we can, and try to tread lightly.

Highland Hospitality

Scottish warmth, Nordic simplicity. Hospitality that feels genuine, not scripted.

Excellence

We care about the details. Good furnishings, proper maintenance, cleanliness you can count on.

Family Values

Ancarraig has always been a family run affair - husband & wife teams have looked after this place since inception. We know most of our guests by name, and many come back year after year.

Home Away from Home

The lodges are designed to feel like homes, not hotel rooms. Somewhere you can actually relax with home comforts and amenites.

Attention to Detail

Welcome hampers, local recommendations, questions answered quickly. The small things that make a difference.
